Cyclops Privacy Policy

Effective: October 30, 2026

Cyclops is the app for Lidar Engineering crane cameras. This policy explains what the Cyclops app for iPhone and Android does with your information. In short: Cyclops talks directly to your camera over the camera’s own Wi-Fi. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and Lidar Engineering does not receive your video, audio, recordings or passwords.

What stays on your phone

  • Camera details and passwords. The cameras you add, their Wi-Fi network names and their passwords are stored only on your phone, in the phone’s secure storage (Keychain on iPhone, encrypted storage on Android). Deleting the app deletes them.
  • Video and audio. Live video, sound and recordings travel directly between the camera and your phone. They are not sent to Lidar Engineering or anyone else.
  • Snapshots and recordings you save. When you choose to save one, it goes to your phone’s photo library. What happens to it after that is up to you.

Phone permissions and why Cyclops asks

  • Microphone: only while you hold the talk button, so you can speak through the camera’s speaker. Your voice is sent to the camera and is not recorded or stored by the app.
  • Bluetooth: to show which of your cameras are nearby. Cyclops only looks for Cyclops cameras.
  • Location (Android, and Wi-Fi network name on iPhone): your phone requires this permission to read Wi-Fi network names and scan for nearby cameras. Cyclops does not read, track or store your location.
  • Local network / Wi-Fi: to join the camera’s Wi-Fi network and talk to the camera.
  • Photos (add only): to save snapshots and recordings you choose to save.

Sharing a camera

When you share a camera with someone, Cyclops creates a link or QR code that contains what their phone needs to connect, including the camera’s passwords. Anyone with the link can connect to that camera, so share it only with people you trust. The connection details are in the part of the link after the “#”, which web browsers do not send to our website. Changing the camera’s password in Cyclops stops old links from working.

Information that leaves your phone

  • App updates. Cyclops checks for small app updates through Expo, our app update service. These checks send basic technical information such as the app version and phone platform, a random ID created when the app is installed (it isn’t linked to your name, phone number or accounts, and deleting the app removes it), and your IP address as part of any internet request. They do not include anything about your cameras, video or audio. See Expo’s privacy policy.
  • App stores. Apple and Google may share crash reports and usage statistics with us if you have allowed that in your phone’s settings. If you test a beta through TestFlight or Google Play, any feedback you send goes to us. These are governed by Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies.
  • Emailing support. If you email us, we receive what you send and use it only to help you.

We do not sell or share your information for advertising, and Cyclops contains no third-party advertising or tracking.

The camera

This policy covers the Cyclops app. The camera itself only works with the phones you connect to it. To erase everything stored on a camera, use Factory reset in the app’s camera settings.

Children

Cyclops is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your choices

You can turn off any permission in your phone’s settings; the features that need it will stop working until you turn it back on. To remove everything Cyclops stores on your phone, delete the app.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
